The famous Domesday Book mentions the hamlet of Chalton which is part of the civil parish. This area was held by Adeliza, wife of Hugh de Grandmesnil (one of the proven companions of William the Conqueror). Back then this area consisted of a medow, mill and woodland. Muggerhanger was considered to be part of the town of Potton.
