Carnousie Castle - One of the best attractions while you're in Carnousie is the castle. The area was a barony that was created for Leslie, Earl of Ross in 1369. There was an original manor house that was on or beside a mote called the Mount of Magy. The Castlehill Farm is what lies there now just ahead of the Maggie Burn.

The manor then passed on the various other families, but it was held by the Dunbars until 1530 which was the time when it was granted to Walter Ogilvy of Monycabock. Walter was licensed by James V to build a new fortified house on the lands. However, it was his second son Walter who built the structure in 1577.

Carnousie was sold to Walter's brother Sir George Ogilvy of Dunlugas in 1583 and the castle was mentioned as new. George then passed on the castle to his second son George, who married Walter's daughter Margaret.

George and Margaret's son was created a baronet, but he went into debt. In order to settle his debts, the lands were sold off to Sir George Gordon in 1683. His grandson, Arthur, died in exile for having taken part in the rebellion of 1745. Carnousie was then sold to George Hay in 1757.

George Hay made some additions to the structure before selling it Colonel Patrick Duff. Yet again, the owners were burdened with financial difficulties and were forced to sell the property to the Stewards of Belladrum in 1827.

There were more sales of the property throughout the years until it finally went to the Bisset family. The castle was then abandoned after the war and was purchased by a restorer afterwards.

Finally, the castle was sold to David Williams.
